I think your method sounds great---nothing else has so far kicked me out of my slavish, academic, formality-based, reading-based rut! I'm beginning to think maybe this can! I look forward to being able to actually converse some day.

I hate to admit this, but I am 59 years old…and a woman at that!. I love Anime and have often thought about learning the Japanese that is used in anime. I guess I have the brain of a 15 year old boy…not gay, but really into gaming (FPS and such, Half Life,Bioshock etc, and anime. My faves are Naruto and Inuyasha. Hunter x Hunter is in there and DBZ (all series), I really appreciate that you have put this together to learn from anime, You have taken the time to explain, intelligently, what I was trying to do (without a lot of success), and I do love the Japanese culture. The tea ceremony is part of my daily ritual. You are quite intelligent, and have a great stage presence for the videos. Thank you, domo arigatou, Alyx

こんにちは! I recently stumbled upon your YouTube channel (ok, not literally, ‘cause that’s impossible) and have laughed my butt off (yeah, technically it’s still there), while also gaining valuable information. I’m looking forward to learning Japanese using your anime-zing technique (yes, I’m done)! ありがとうございます! じゃまた!

Hajimemashite. Ate wa Rinji dosu. Yoroshiu otano moshimasu. - Ookini arigatou san dosu for the wonderful tip. I’ve tried this a couple of times and it really DOES help a ton. I’ve watched Ghost Hunt so many times through now I can watch it in Japanese without subtitles at all and kind of know what’s going on because I’ve watched it with subtitles then without (and also in English >.

This is cool. I like the approach of learning casual Japanese through the anime that I already enjoy. I am interested in the full course.

It is more or less the way I learned English, only I used to transcribe a lot. But watching it twice, without subs, sounds good, so I’ll definitely try that.

It actually works. I’ve been watching anime and listening to only Jap music for awhile and now I’m giving a shot at Keigo (formal Japanese that they teach in formal classroom situation) and find it so much easier to tackle and you pretty much have the Japanese language logic without even realizing it.

OK… true… I learned few simple words by watching anime… That’s same way how i learned German lang, watching german TV… after 4 years I could understand and speak. xD Hm… watching first sub, then raw anime, is even faster way… I can do that. Thanks man! Such a little info can be a really big help.

Man you are the freaking greatest! i only just started learning and i sometimes lose motivation, all i have to do to get it back is watch one of your vids!!
I have one question, i keep finding heaps of different ‘beginner musts’ for learning japanese and so far the thing i’m finding most difficult is getting hold of just a good plain list of really common japanese words just to memorise. Do you think that’s a good way to learn?

You are a genius Ken Canon! So many people told me I can’t learn japanese through anime, they said it was impossible. You proved that it IS possible. If I was older I would totally give you money to show how much I appreciate you, but I’m not old enough yet, I’m still in school, but I totally would if I was older.

Haven’t tried it yet but I can already tell this is going to be fun. What’s better than watching something you enjoy while learning.
